How to access Claude with a VPN

Remember: not all VPNs work with Claude. Some VPN servers have already been blocked by Anthropic or lack the features needed to access Claude securely. You can test my troubleshooting steps with any VPN, but if they fail, I recommend switching to a fully tested alternative.

1. Open Claude in an incognito window: This prevents old cookies, cached sessions, and active logins from conflicting with your VPN server location.
2. Clear your cookies and cache: Stored location data may show that you previously accessed Claude from an unsupported country or without a VPN.
3. Switch to another VPN server: Try a different city or supported country to get a new IP address. A country nearby will usually provide the best speeds.
4. Disconnect and reconnect the VPN: This process can help assign you a different shared IP address in the location you need (VPNs usually have a pool of IPs for each city in the list).

Why do you need a VPN for Claude AI?

If you are in the US, Canada, the EU, or another supported region, you usually do not need a VPN to subscribe, log in, or use Claude AI. However, a VPN is useful if Claude is blocked where you live, unavailable while traveling, or restricted on a work or school network.

A VPN also encrypts your connection, preventing your ISP, employer, school, or public Wi-Fi provider from tracking your Claude access. It also hides your real IP address from Anthropic, allowing you to use Claude in a restricted region.

Can I use a free VPN to unblock Claude?

How to fix a Claude AI account disabled error

If you see the message “Your network has been blocked from accessing Claude,” the problem is usually the IP address rather than your account. Try switching from wifi to mobile data. If Claude works, your network IP has been blocked. Connecting to a recommended VPN server should give you a new IP address and allow you to log in as usual.

A disabled account is different. A VPN cannot reverse an account suspension. If Anthropic has suspended your account, log in to Claude and submit an appeal through the official form. Creating a new account may allow you to regain access, but doing so after a ban could breach Anthropic’s terms and lead to the new account being blocked.
